Family of four found hanging, cause still unknown

The Bhiwandi police station in Thane district have registered accidental death report (ADR) after a mother and her three daughters ended their life by hanging in their home. The reason is not clear yet and their bodies have been sent for postmortem. The mass suicide has created a sensation in the area. “In the jurisdiction of Bhiwandi police station in Kamatghar in Fene Gaon, a mother and her three daughters have died. The police are investigating the matter,” said senior police inspector Krishnavdev Kharade, Bhiwandi police station. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the senior officer of Bhiwandi city police station reached the spot with his team and started investigating the matter. At present the reason for suicide is not clear, but the police is investigating the whole matter thoroughly. The police could be seen inspecting the house as they closely looked at the wires attached to the ceiling, possibly the four deceased persons used to hang themselves. This tragic incident leaves many questions — what was the reason that a mother had to take such a horrific step like suicide with her children? The whole area is in shock due to this incident.

2 women arrested for selling ganja on mail trains:

The Thane unit of the Railway Crime Branch seized 32.923 kilograms of ganja worth Rs 8,35,700 from two women who were illegally selling the contraband in Mumbai from reserved coaches of long-distance mail and express trains. Both were subsequently arrested. Acting on the orders and instructions of the Commissioner of Police, Railways, Rakesh Kalasagar, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, Railways, Pragya Jedge, the teams had been directed to patrol effectively in order to prevent illegal activities and crimes within the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Railways Police Commissionerate. Duo caught moving suspiciously in the compartment As part of heightened vigilance during Ganeshotsav, on 27 August the team was conducting patrols in the reserved coaches between Kalyan and Thane on Train No. 18030, the Shalimar–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express. When the train arrived at Thane Railway Station, the police team noticed two women in Coach No. S/6 behaving suspiciously while carrying passenger bags. On checking the luggage on the platform itself, the women admitted that their bags contained marijuana. For security reasons and further action, the police team, with the assistance of female officers, escorted the suspects along with their bags to the Thane unit office, where a detailed search was conducted. The accused have been booked under Sections 8(C), 20(B)(2)(C), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, along with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

Bengal man in Thane pushed into Bangladesh

A 36-year-old man from West Bengal, who had gone to Maharashtra for work, was picked up by Maharashtra Police, suspecting him to be an illegal Bangladesh migrant, and was pushed across the border into the neighbouring country by the Border Security Force (BSF) in the wee hours of Saturday. The Maharashtra Police and the BSF, according to the West Bengal government, pushed Mehbub Sheikh into Bangladesh despite intervention from the West Bengal Police, state Migrant Welfare Board and submission of necessary documents to prove his Indian citizenship. “After Sheikh’s family approached us, we contacted the Maharashtra Police. All the (required) documents were sent to them.

Mumbai rains updates

Several hundred people were rescued today in two separate incidents of monorail trains coming to a sudden halt in Mumbai as Maharashtra was pounded by rains for the second day in a row on Tuesday (August 19, 2025). Over 500 people were rescued after a monorail train came to a halt between Mysore Colony and Bhakti Park stations, while 200 others were evacuated from a monorail train that stopped abruptly between Acharya Atre & Wadala Mono Rail Station. At least eight persons have died in Maharashtra’s Nanded district which witnessed flooding due to a cloudburst-like situation, while Mumbai received a record rainfall of around 300 mm. 350 people were rescued and moved to safe locations after Mithi river breached the danger mark for a few hours. Five teams of NDRF remained stationed in the city.

13 passengers fall from local train in Thane:5 dead, 8 injured; accident due to overcrowding

13 passengers fell from a Kasara-CSMT local train at Mumbra railway station in Thane on Monday. 5 died while 8 were injured in the accident. The reason is believed to be an excessive crowd on the train, said Central Railways. The railway administration and police have reached the spot. The injured were taken immediately to the nearest hospital. Investigation into the accident has begun. Local services have also been affected by the incident. CPRO Swapnil said, “The guard of a Kasara-bound local train reported the incident. People have been rushed to the hospital for their treatment. The incident happened between Mumbra-Diva railway stations on the Down/Fast Line. People travelling on the footboard on a local train from Kasara and similarly, those on a train going towards CSMT collided with each other and fell.” Railways accused of negligence Accusing the railways of negligence, MNS Thane division is discussing about staging a protest at Thane station. UBT Shiv Sena has also accused the railways of negligence. Maharashtra govt to give Rs 5 lakh each to kin of deceased Meanwhile, the Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan on Monday said the state government will give Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased in the suburban railway accident near Mumbra in Thane district, news agency PTI reported.
