13 passengers fell from a Kasara-CSMT local train at Mumbra railway station in Thane on Monday. 5 died while 8 were injured in the accident. The reason is believed to be an excessive crowd on the train, said Central Railways. The railway administration and police have reached the spot.
The injured were taken immediately to the nearest hospital. Investigation into the accident has begun. Local services have also been affected by the incident.
CPRO Swapnil said, “The guard of a Kasara-bound local train reported the incident. People have been rushed to the hospital for their treatment. The incident happened between Mumbra-Diva railway stations on the Down/Fast Line. People travelling on the footboard on a local train from Kasara and similarly, those on a train going towards CSMT collided with each other and fell.”
Railways accused of negligence
Accusing the railways of negligence, MNS Thane division is discussing about staging a protest at Thane station.
UBT Shiv Sena has also accused the railways of negligence.
Maharashtra govt to give Rs 5 lakh each to kin of deceased
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan on Monday said the state government will give Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased in the suburban railway accident near Mumbra in Thane district, news agency PTI reported.
